Blog 23: Final Lesson Reflection

1) Positive Statement
I am very proud of my activity, it went very well with my best answer and everybody really seemed to enjoy it.

2)  Questions to Consider
a) I would give my block presentation a P
b) I would give my overall project a P

3) What worked for you in your senior project?
Finding my mentor worked really great for me. My mentor is my father so he is there whenever I need him for something and he always has great information.

4) What didn't work?
What didn't really work me was how prepared I was for my presentation. I was prepared but I don't think I was prepared enough. I stumbled a bit but I still got through it.

5) Finding Value
Doing this project has really helped me with my communication skills and how to use my time wisely. I have always been a people person but working more with my mentor made me improve even more. And because of all the deadlines and knowing how important they were really taught me how to manage my time wisely.

Exit Interview

(1) What is your essential question, and what are your answers?  What is your best answer and why?
What is the best technique to implement stormwater regulations as it relates to the Clean Water Act (CWA)?
Answer 1: One of the best techniques to implement stormwater regulations as it relates to the Clean Water Act is by public education.
Answer 2: Another best way to implement stormwater regulations as it relates to the Clean Water Act is by building the community.
Answer 3: The last best way to implement stormwater regulations as it relates to the Clean Water Act is by developing manuals and handbooks for industrial and commercial facilities.
My best answer is my first answer, public education, because people need to know what they are doing to cause stormwater pollution and what they effects are. They also need to know how they can help solve the problem. Educating the public is the answer to my other three answers.

(2) What process did you take to arrive at this answer?
It actually didn't take me that long to think that this was my best answer. I actually thought that it would be my first answer to begin with. As I was coming up with my other two answers I was thinking that you need to educate the public first before you can build the community or develop manuals and handbooks.  It did not take me long at all  to figure out that public education would be my best answer.

(3) What problems did you face?  How did you resolve them?
I really didn't face any problems. The main problem I had was too find good research to use because stormwater isn't exactly a very interesting subject that supplies all this kind of information. For a while I was having trouble finding good articles online, but one day my mentor gave me all these magazines with great articles talking about what is going on in different cities and how they are coping with stormwater pollution. Those magazines really helped a lot.

(4) What are the two most significant sources you used to answer your essential question and why?
The two most significant sources I used to answer my essential question were my mentor and a gentleman named Steve Groner, he owns Steve Groner and Associates. Groner really helped me come up with my second answer, he is very intelligent when it comes to stormwater pollution. My mentor is really great because he has worked in the stormwater field for about twenty years and has helped me with so much of my senior project work.

April post

During the month of April I helped my mentor prepare and work at an Earth Day event teaching elementary students about stormwater pollution. By doing this I played a simple educational game with them and used a model of a city to explain how stormwater pollution comes to be,
*The picture below is me at the event holding a snake with my earth day shirt on.

Independent Component 2

(a) “I, Andrea Rosales, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work.”

(b) Cite your source regarding who or what article or book helped you complete the independent component.
      Stever Groner
(c) Update your Independent Component 2 Log -->

(d) Explain what you completed.
I participated at an earth day event which helps me answer my first answer which is my best answer and it helps me come up with an activity for my final presentation

APPLIED
How did the component help you answer your EQ? Please include specific examples to illustrate how it helped.

It helped my answer my EQ because it made me even further understand what public education can do. Seeing all the 5th graders learn about the environment was refreshing because it shows the they do care and want to make a difference with is why public education is my best answer.

March Extra Post

During the month of March I helped my mentor in his office a lot and talked to a guy he knows Steve Groner. He is the owner of Groner Associates and is a consultant for public education in municipal cities. I didn't do too much this month but I got a lot of good information from Steve. He helped me come up with my third answer to my essential question.

Blog 17: Third Answer

  • What is the best technique to implement stormwater regulations as it relates to the Clean Water Act?
  • The third best technique to implement stormwter regulations is by building the community.
  • If a person sees a friend doing something then that will encourage them to do the some thing. So peer pressure isn't all that bad when it is for something good. I have also seen it personally, I saw a brother and sister walking then the brother picked up a piece of trash then the little sister did the same.
  •  http://sbcountystormwater.org/?s=community&submit=Search      This link talks about going on a hike and that is a great way to getting the community together and help the environment.
  • It is good to try to be a good influence on others especially the younger generation. This is a great way to build the community.

Answer 2

1.  What is your EQ?
What is the best technique to implement stormwater regulations as it relates to the Clean Water Act?

2.  What is your first answer? (In complete thesis statement format)
One of the best way to implement stormwater regulations is by public education.

3.  What is your second answer? (In complete thesis statement format)
Another one of the best techniques to implement stormwater regulations is building the community.

4.  List three reasons your answer is true with a real-world application for each.
For the first answer when I go to events with my mentor and do activities with people, you can tell they are thinking and actually trying to learn. When we tell someone how to help they say they will do it and that shows that they were listening and hopefully they will do what they say. I have seen people tell their friends and family what to do and what not to do.

5.  What printed source best supports your answer?
Burton, Aaron. "Advancing Stormwater Reuse." Stormwater Management Nov. 2014: 16-19. Web. 22 Jan. 2015.

6. What other source supports your answer?
http://sbcountystormwater.org/

7.  Tie this together with a  concluding thought.
Community is a really big part in helping prevent stormwater polliution because when everyone is helping out the problem is being solved easier and quicker.

Blog 15: Independent Component 2 Approval

1.  Describe in detail what you plan to do for your 30 hours.
I will be talking to organizations that study peoples behavior, I will be conducting my own experiments to collect statistical data peoples behavior

 2.  Discuss how or what you will do to meet the expectation of showing 30 hours of evidence.
I will take lots of pictures when I do experiments and I will have other classmates helping me so they can also vouch for me that I actually did what I did.

3.  Explain how this component will help you explore your topic in more depth.
A lot of the experiments that I will be doing will be based on a highly possible second answer. So doing these experiments will help me confirm to either keep or change my possible second answer.

4.  Post a log in your Senior Project Hours link and label it "Independent Component 2" log.

Independent Componant 1

LITERAL
“I, Andrea Rosales, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 34 hours of work.”

Cite your source regarding who or what article or book helped you complete the independent component.
My mentor Joseph Rosales was one of my best sources because he really knows so much about my topic and can explain everything really well and helped me out a lot.

(c) Update your hours in your Senior Project Hours link. Make sure it is clearly labeled with hours for individual sessions as well as total hours.
------>

Explain what you completed.
I did a 45 min presentation to the West house sophomores and i have been going with my mentor to inspect businesses which take up most of the morning.

 INTERPRETIVE
Defend your work and explain its significance to your project and how it demonstrates 30 hours of work.   Provide evidence (photos, transcript, art work, videos, etc) of the 30 hours of work.
Doing the presentation really helped my understand my answer better and going to do inspections with my mentor really helped me understand my topic better because I actually got to see myself how the inspections work and how the different businesses don't follow regulations.
-this is a picture I took when my mentor and I were out in Rialto doing inspections.

  • APPLIED
How did the component help you understand the foundation of your topic better?  Please include specific examples to illustrate this.
This component really helped me understand my topic better because this gave me the opportunity to go out in the field and see what goes on and how stormwater regulations are implemented. it is also interesting to see the very few people who care about our planet and actually try to help out and cooperate.

Lesson 2 Reflection

1. What are you most proud of in your Lesson 2 Presentation and why?
I am very proud of my activity because it was very engaging and everyone seemed to enjoy it.

 2. a.     What assessment would you give yourself on your Lesson 2 Presentation (self-assessment)?
      P

 b.     Explain why you deserve that grade using evidence from the Lesson 2 component contract.
I think I deserve at least a P because my activity was very fun and I gave good explanations on my research and answer and I made time.

 3. What worked for you in your Lesson 2?
My activity was like the star of the show in my presentation. Everybody really enjoyed it and someone even told me it was cute.

4. What didn't work? If you had a time machine, what would you have done differently to improve your Lesson 2?
If I would be able to go back I would change something I said. Something kind of accidentally slipped out, it wasn't that bad but still probably should have said something that means the same thing in another word.

5. What do you think your answer #2 is going to be?
To be honest I really have no idea. I am constantly thinking about it but can't quite get a good answer yet.

Blog 11: Holiday Project Update

1.  It is important to consistently work on your senior project, whether it is break or we are in school.  What did you do over the break with your senior project?

I didn't have a chance to do much physical work over break because I work with my dad and he was also on vacation. But I did do some research about the different regulations for stormwater.

2.  What was the most important thing you learned from what you did, and why?  What was the source of what you learned?

One of the most important things that I have learned is public education. Because if the public didn't have the slightest knowledge of stormwater pollution then our waters will be worse than what they are now. A lot of people still are under educated about it but we are doing our best to get everyone educated.
  http://sbcountystormwater.org/

3.  If you were going to do a 10 question interview on questions related to answers for your EQ, who would you talk to and why?

I would Interview Lynn Merrill because my dad works for him and he is very knowledgeable about storm water and stormwater regulations.
